Mathews Street Waterline Replacement Project Begins August 8

Beginning Monday August 8, Utilities crews and contractor, Connell Resources, will begin replacing an aging waterline in Mathews Street. This project will replace approximately 500 linear feet of 4-inch cast iron waterline installed in the early 1900s with new 8-inch PVC, in Mathews Street from Mountain Avenue to Oak Street. The project is expected to take approximately eight weeks, (weather dependent).
A full closure of Mathews Street will be in place during construction from Mountain Avenue to Oak Street. The first phase of the project will also require a lane closure in Mountain Avenue to allow crews to connect the new water main into the existing water main in Mountain Avenue. Pedestrian access to homes and businesses along Mathews Street will be maintained during construction. Neighborhoods in the Old Town area have aging infrastructure that contains the oldest 50 miles of water main in Fort Collins. Many of the mains are undersized and over 100 years old.
Roads and intersections are closed for safety and to complete the job as efficiently as possible. Safety for residents, bike riders, commuters, pedestrians and work crews is a top priority. Barricades and fences will be used to clearly mark areas of excavation at nights and on weekends. Detour routes will be provided as needed. Please keep children and pets away from construction zones.
