Peak Load#

Fort Collins Utilities anticipates hitting a peak load today between 3-6 p.m.
Peak load is defined as the maximum demand on an electrical power-supply system in a given year.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to reduce electricity consumption, especially the use of air conditioning units during these times.
Peak load is monitored and tracked annually to understand the dates and conditions that our community's use is the highest.
Knowing when peak days will occur assists Fort Collins Utilities and Platte River Power Authority (Platte River) in supporting community electricity use with the appropriate energy portfolio.
Peak Load Facts:
- Platte River's total summer effective capacity is 931 MW. This means we have adequate supply for peak days.
- Platte River's all-time peak electric load was set on June 21, 2016 at 659 MW.
- You can view PRPA's peak load online to see when the monthly peak will likely occur, helping you plan accordingly.
- The highest temperature on June 21 in Fort Collins was 100 degrees in 1998.
- Today's forecast predicts a high of 97 degrees.
