Fort Collins Utilities Receives National Recognition for Reliable Electric Operations

Posted on: May-28-2014

Fort Collins Utilities Light & Power is one of 184 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3 ®) Designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.

Of those awarded, Light & Power was one of the few utilities that received the Diamond Designation—the highest level of recognition.

The RP3 recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. These criteria are based on sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

Throughout 2013, Light & Power experienced 99.9982 percent electric system reliability—the highest in 30 years. Not only was system reliability at an all-time high, but when an outage did occur, its average duration was 75 percent shorter (an average of 9.58 minutes) than the other public power agencies who report reliability indices to APPA. To better describe the impact of these numbers, the average Fort Collins customer would experience an outage every 3.3 years.
