Water Service Line FAQ#

The City of Fort Collins is working on identifying unknown water service line material across Fort Collins in response to new EPA regulations. A water service line is the pipe that delivers drinking water from the water main in the street to your home.

Most service lines are located in a basement or crawlspace. You will be looking for where a water pipe enters your home. This is most likely near your water meter. This service line pipe can look grey or copper colored.

If your service line is in a crawlspace or you would like assistance, please call 517-567-9172 or visit fcgov.com/inventory to schedule a time for a technician to come out and identify your line for you.

Water Service Line Ownership and Responsibility

When looking at this diagram, you are able to see where Fort Collins Utilities' responsibility ends and where the homeowner's responsibility begins.

In this image, you will see two locations where your water meter can be located- both inside the home and outside.

Knowing the location of your water meter is helpful as your water shut off is often located near your water meter.

Please see the photos below that show examples of the two pictures we need you to upload. One photo being taken from the front and one from the side.

  2. Then, scan the QR code on the letter you received or visit fcgov.com/wsl
  3. After filling in the information requested, you will be asked to upload your two photos.
  4. Select the blue browse button and then tap "photo library"
  5. You will then be taken to your phone's photo library where you can select the photo taken from the front of your service line
  6. After your photo is selected, you will press "done" at the top right corner
  7. Press the blue arrow at the bottom to take you to the next page
  8. You will now upload a photo of your service line from the side
  9. Follow steps 4-6 to upload your photo
  10. You're done!
