Poudre Canyon Shoulder Closure for Waterline Replacement
Posted on: Oct-12-2023
Fort Collins Utilities will replace an aging section of a raw waterline just south of Gateway Natural Area that delivers water from the Cache la Poudre River to Utilities’ Water Treatment Facility. The waterline is a critical part of Utilities’ mission to deliver reliable and high-quality water to the community. The work will begin the week of Oct. 16 and is expected to last about four months, weather permitting.
The following locations will be closed to the public for the duration of the project:
- The shoulder of Highway 14 within the project area
- The river within the project area, including for boating and fishing
- Lower Road Trail within Gateway Natural Area
- The Gateway Natural Area boat ramp
Traffic on Hwy. 14 may be slowed or stopped for occasional equipment entering or exiting the construction zone during regular working hours, Mon.-Fri., 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Access to Gateway Natural Area will not be impacted.
Utilities coordinated extensively with Fort Collins Natural Areas to minimize impacts to the river, recreators and Gateway Natural Area, which played a role in scheduling construction over the winter months. Water quality, flow and general river access outside the project area will remain unchanged. Mitigation measures are scheduled to restore the river and banks to pre-construction conditions.
