Fort Collins Utilities Receives National Energy Innovator Award

Posted on: Jun-20-2017

On June 20, Fort Collins Utilities received an American Public Power Association 2017 Energy Innovator Award at the association's national conference in Orlando, Florida.

The Energy Innovator award recognizes utility programs that have demonstrated advances in the development or application of creative energy-efficient techniques or technologies, provided better service to electric customers, or projects that increase the efficiency of utility operations.

Utilities was honored for the success of the Efficiency Works-Neighborhood pilot program, which tested a streamlined process for home efficiency upgrades. The streamlined process made efficiency upgrades easy for customers by offering a choice of three packages (good, better and best), each custom-made for their homes.

Packages were created using standardized pricing and eliminated the need to get multiple contractor bids and sort through often confusing and inconsistent work recommendations and prices. They also featured upfront rebates that reduced project cost and Efficiency Works ensured the quality of all completed work.

Over a one-year period, the pilot program reached twice as many customers, and resulted in more extensive improvements than the traditional home efficiency program. The pilot also lead to a 50 percent greater electrical use reduction, 70 percent greater natural gas use reduction and 60 percent greater greenhouse gas savings per home.
