Utilities Drainpipe Project#
Project Goal#

Fort Collins Utilities and contractor Connell Resources will be installing 600 feet of 8-inch drainpipe and three manholes in the Maxwell Natural Area. This pipe will move water from a tank into the Dixon Canal each year during routine maintenance operations.
Historically, the operation of moving water through the natural drainageway in the area has caused trail flooding in the Ponds at Overland Trail community open space. This project will eliminate future trail disruptions and improve annual operations.
Construction is scheduled to begin on March 8 and is anticipated to take less than four weeks.
Map of Area#

Trail Closures#
Access to Maxwell Natural Area will be closed at Banyan Drive and the Foothills Trail (in Maxwell Natural Area) will be closed on the west side of the construction site. Additionally, multiple trails located near the construction access route in the Ponds at Overland Trail open space will be closed for the duration of the project. We understand this is a heavily used recreation area and plan to keep trails open where possible.
Safety#
Safety for residents, the recreating community and construction crews is top priority. Please obey trail closure signs and avoid construction zones and access routes. Alternate access signs will be posted where applicable.
