Investigation on Collision Involving Police Vehicle

Released on Thursday, November 30, 2023

On November 30, 2023 at approximately 2:11 pm a Fort Collins Police Officer was involved in a crash at the intersection of West Mulberry Street and South Howes Street. The officer was responding emergent, with his lights and sirens activated to an injury crash that had happened on Mulberry out by I-25. The marked police unit was travelling eastbound on Mulberry Street when it collided with a red Honda CR-V that was going southbound on Howes Street. The Honda came to rest on the southeast corner of this intersection, and the police vehicle came to rest after sliding into a white Ford Transit van that was stopped on Howes Street facing northbound.

The Honda CR-V was occupied by an adult female, and both her and the officer were transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Due to the collision involving a Fort Collins Police vehicle and heavy call load volume for patrol officers, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

Eastbound Mulberry lanes were closed in between Meldrum Street and Howes Street for approximately five hours while investigators processed the scene.

The CRASH Team is still investigating the circumstances that led up to the collision. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Officer Phillip Morris at (970) 416 1165.
