Parks & Rec Month#

Each July, the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) celebrates the lasting impact of parks and recreation in communities across the country. This year, Fort Collins is excited to join NRPA and their focus on togetherness with a series of special events.

Scavenger Hunt at The Farm
Date & Time: All of July
Location: The Farm at Lee Martinez Park
Cost: Admission to The Farm
Giddy up, partner! Mosey around The Farm and complete the scavenger hunt to earn a prize. Once you turn it in, we’ll toss your card into the hat for a chance to win an even bigger prize in our drawin’.

There & Back Again Walking Challenge
Date & Time: All of July
Activity Number: 311991
Cost: No Fee
Compete in the Parks & Rec Month walking challenge! Walk, hike, or wheel (for chair users) along the paved trails there and back for a total of 88 miles by the end of July. Participants’ miles and trails will be tracked using the honor system. The first community member to complete all trails and all miles will win a small prize. Weekly updates will be displayed at the Fort Collins Senior Center.

EPIC Try-o-thon
Date & Time: Saturday, July 19 | Timed activities vary from 9-11:15 a.m.
Location: Edora Pool Ice Center & Edora Park
Cost: No Fee
Registration: Required
Cool off and try all the things that EPIC has to offer! From hockey to aqua volleyball, participate in any of the six activities being offered. Please sign up for activities at the link below.

40th Anniversary of The Farm!
Date & Time: Sunday, July 20
Location: The Farm at Lee Martinez Park
The celebration event will take place in September – stay tuned for more details.

Kids in the Park
Date: Friday, July 25, 2025
Time: 4-7 p.m.
Location: Twin Silo Community Park
Same event, new time! Enjoy your favorite day out at the park, where community members are encouraged to get outside and play! Learn about exciting recreation activities, play in the park, dance to music and enjoy snacks from local food trucks.

Movie in the Park
Date & Time: Thursday, July 31 (Time is TBA; based on sunset)
Location: Heritage Park
Movie: Cars
Families are welcome to bring a picnic dinner or favorite movie treats to enjoy during the show.
Kiddos are invited to create their own “drive-in” car with supplies available for pickup at Northside Aztlan Community Center on Friday, 7/25 (while supplies last).

Downtown Holiday Lighting Ceremony
Date & Time: Fri., November 7 | 5:30-7 p.m.
Location: Old Town Square
Age: All
Cost: Free
Kick off the holiday season in Old Town Square with the illumination of the annual lights! Trees throughout Old Town will be illuminated with thousands of LED bulbs through February. Lights turn on at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Veterans Day Breakfast
Date & Time: Tues., Nov. 11 from 7-10 a.m.
Location: Fort Collins Senior Center
Cost: Free
Enjoy a morning of food, song, and patriotism to celebrate those who have honorably served our country. Presented by the Kiwanis Poudre Golden K Club of Fort Collins and the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department. Posting of the colors begins at 8 a.m. with service songs to follow.

Holiday Artisan Market

Find uniquely crafted holiday gifts at this premier craft fair. More than 100 artisans and crafters gather to share handmade creations with visitors.

Winter S.O.A.P Troupe Show

Be entertained this winter with S.O.A.P. (Slightly Older Adult Players) Troupe. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Fort Collins Senior Center or by calling 970-221-6644. Note: Space is limited to 200.

Paralympic Program & Equipment Expo

Test out adaptive equipment and participate in Paralympic sports. Experience a GRIT Freedom Chair (for hiking), adaptive cycles (including handcycles), Wheelchair Rugby, Paralympic Boccia, Wheelchair Tennis, Adaptive Pickleball, and more. Farm 40th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrate The Farm’s 40th anniversary with a special day out at The Farm. Enjoy barnyard games, learn the history of the farm, and visit with the animals.

At this non-spooky Halloween event, treat your little ghosties to a stroll through the barn and down trick-or-treat street to collect candy. Tickets available starting Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 a.m. Tickets are only needed
for participating children. Adults and other children may attend for free without a ticket.

Northern Colorado New Horizons Swing Band
Date & Time: Sat., October 18 | 3-4:30 p.m.

Enjoy the sounds of the Northern Colorado New Horizons Swing Band at the Fort Collins Senior Center! This lively group of senior adult musicians bring the golden era of big band jazz to life with infectious energy and charm. Composed of retirees, they gather weekly to rehearse and perform classic swing tunes from the 1930s and 1940s, and even some more modern songs.

Line Dance Shindig

Join in the fun at Northern Colorado’s premier line dance event attracting dancers from around the state and beyond! This year’s featured instructor is Jo Thompson Szymanski, a five-time International Line Dance Instructor of the Year and the very first Line Dance Hall of Fame inductee. Dances from absolute beginner to intermediate levels will be taught, leaving plenty of time for open dancing. Pre-registration is required. Note: Snacks provided. Please bring your own lunch.

Try-cycle: Discover the Joy of Bicycling at Any Age

Age: 50 & up
Whether you’re an experienced rider or just curious, try out a variety of bicycles including: traditional bikes, e-bikes, adult tricycles and bikes designed for comfort, stability or added mobility support. Friendly instructors are available to offer guidance and answer questions, while safety tips and helmet fittings will ensure you feel confident and secure. The event also offers a relaxed, social atmosphere with refreshments and helpful community resources. Learn how cycling can enhance your health, independence and overall enjoyment, no matter your experience or ability level.
