In August 2025, Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) were notified of a sexual relationship between a school counselor at Poudre School District’s (PSD) Poudre Community Academy and a juvenile student. FCPS detectives initiated an investigation into Janell Edsall (DOB 05/22/1996) and determined she had engaged in a sexual relationship with a juvenile student for approximately one year, beginning in 2023.

When the crimes occurred, the victim was a juvenile; however, the victim is now an adult. On November 19, 2025, Edsall was booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:

  • Class 3 Felony - Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (1 Count)
  • Class 4 Felony - Sexual Assault on a Client by a Psychotherapist (1 Count)
  • Class 2 Misdemeanor - False Reporting to Authorities (1 Count)

Detectives are concerned there may be more victims or witnesses of additional criminal behavior related to Edsall. Anyone who believes they are a victim or have additional information related to this type of behavior is asked to contact Detective RJ Tuttle at (970) 416-2825, or Larimer County Crime Stoppers at (970) 221-6868.

Edsall has not been employed with PSD since July, 2025. The School District has been cooperative throughout the investigation. Edsall also worked as a private practice counselor at Vine Counseling LLC in Fort Collins.

Charges are merely an accusation by law enforcement, and the suspect must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
