Grocery Store Employee Charged with Sexual Offenses

Beginning summer 2023, Fort Collins Police investigated reports of an individual frequenting coffee businesses in the area and performing obscene behavior around employees and customers. The suspect, Stephen Masalta, was arrested and booked for these crimes in February 2024. When officers began reviewing digital evidence collected at Masalta’s residence, they discovered evidence of additional felony crimes. The investigation revealed Masalta had masturbated and ejaculated on food items during his employment at the Safeway located at 1426 East Harmony Road, in Fort Collins. His employment spanned approximately 2 months, from December 2023 to February 2024. Safeway has been cooperative and responsive to the needs of the investigation, which is still ongoing. Police anticipate there could be additional victims and charges as the investigation progresses.

Charges are merely an accusation by law enforcement. The suspect must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Class 2 Misdemeanor – Attempted Indecent Exposure – 2 counts
