One man is deceased following an early-morning crash in Fort Collins.
At 12:03 a.m. on November 8, 2017, Fort Collins Police were notified of a single-vehicle collision in the 2000 block of Timberline Lane. A white 2008 Volkswagen hatchback was traveling southbound and swerved to avoid a center median. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which exited the west side of the road. The vehicle struck a fence and tree before rolling over.
One man, believed to be the driver, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity will be released by the Larimer County Coroner at a later time.
Passenger Jesus Alejandro Morales Gutierrez, 18, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Medical Center of the Rockies with injuries. He was later released. Jobani Mungia, 21, was cleared by medical personnel at the scene.
Southbound Timberline Lane was closed at Caribou Drive for approximately 7 hours while the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team investigated the incident. The team deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) to map the scene as part of the investigative process. Police believe speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in this crash.
