Mulch day is rescheduled for May 21. Details are available here.
Due to recent spot fires at the City of Fort Collins Hoffman Mill Road site, the free mulch days scheduled for May 7 and 21 are being canceled until further notice.
A large amount of mulch is currently being stored at the Hoffman Mill crushing facility, a result of storm damage debris from last spring and routine tree maintenance operations. Recent dry and warm conditions have caused the decomposing mulch to gain heat and develop hot spots over the last several weeks. City staff, in coordination with Poudre Fire Authority (PFA), have been monitoring the area in the event of fire activity and were onsite over the weekend when winds increased. The site is currently under control with monitoring from PFA.
Out of an abundance of caution, the free mulch days scheduled for May 7 and May 21 are being canceled until further notice. City staff are currently analyzing the site to determine if a free mulch giveaway is feasible this year.
The City of Fort Collins Forestry Division will provide free wood mulch to the Fort Collins community on Saturday, May 7, and Saturday, May 21 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at 1380 Hoffman Mill Road.
Loading assistance will be provided onsite by City personnel using a front-end loader. Visitors should bring their own open-top vehicle or trailer and will be responsible for covering their loads upon departure from the facility. Please note, this offer is not available to commercial businesses.
The Forestry Division began recycling all City-owned tree debris produced by tree maintenance operations in 2009 and has been working since then to keep this material out of landfills. Each year, the Division provides free wood mulch to the community through Free Mulch Day in the spring and throughout the year at two self-load sites, Timberline Recycling Center and The Gardens on Spring Creek. The mulched material is also utilized on City capital improvement projects, in City Parks, as well as on Poudre School District properties.
