2013 Bike Winter Recap

City of Fort Collins Image

Bike Winter is an FC Bikes' initiative that encourages commuters to continue their riding through the colder months. Events like Light up the Night and Winter Cycling 101 give people the resources they need to ride their bicycles safely in the winter. Click here for the 2013 poster and list of events.

A huge part of the Bike Winter campaign is Winter Bike to Work Day.  Fort Collins' Bike to Work Day is a biannual event to encourage people to bicycle for transportation, experience the benefits of riding a bike, highlight Fort Collins' extensive bike routes, and demonstrate that bicycling is an easy, fun and healthy means of traveling around the city.

December 11, 2013 marked the 7th Annual Winter Bike to Work Day event for Fort Collins.  Preceded by one of the coldest weeks in Fort Collins history, cyclists were still willing to weather the cold in search of free breakfast and a bike-friendly atmosphere.  The event drew over 200 new cyclists and 610 cyclists total.

Bike to Work Day is also meant to highlight the remarkable local businesses that support our biking culture.  The event brings together various businesses to raise awareness about safe bicycle commuting and the benefits of using two wheels to get to work.  With 63 hosts, businesses collaborated to host 23 breakfast stations across the city. Of our 63 hosts, 23 were new to the event!  Click here for a map of the stations.

FC Bikes would like to thank all of the station hosts for their hard work and ongoing support of cycling in Fort Collins. We would also like to thank Lara Bar for generously donating bars to all the stations. Lastly, we would like to thank the MAX Construction team for opening up the Spring Creek Trail underpass at the railroad for this event.

With 7 years under our belt, this event continues to grow and evolve; we are very appreciative of the dedication throughout our community to promoting bicycling as a fun, healthy and safe way of getting around.  We want to thank everyone who helped make this event a success!

Mark your calendar for next year's Winter Bike to Work Day on Wednesday, December 10, 2014!
