Councilmember Julie Pignataro, District 2
Elected on April 2, 2019, Julie represents District 2, where she lives with her husband and son. Julie grew up in Colorado Springs and moved to Fort Collins in 1992 to attend Colorado State University. She graduated in 1995 with a degree in English and chose to make Fort Collins her permanent home. She later got a master's degree in library and information science from Drexel University, which, coupled with project management thinking, is what led to her career as an information technology contractor for the Federal Government – a lens she aims to bring to her work on City Council. She has a passion for public service and has been taking classes in Colorado State University’s Master of Public Policy and Administration to learn and apply insights to her role as a Councilmember.
People who have worked with her speak about her ability to zoom out and zoom in which helps in gaining clarity and focus to ensure alignment with others.
Julie has been an active volunteer in the community since her days as a college student. Most of Julie’s volunteer work has involved promoting opportunities for people in need, animal welfare, environmental preservation, voting rights, and women’s rights. Prior to her time on Council, she served as the Observer Corps Lead for the League of Women Voters and served on the Citizens Review Board.
Julie strives to bring a voice that offers multiple perspectives through her own lived experiences with a spirit of inquiry and lifelong learning. She believes in the power of asking questions so as not to assume information and to invite others’ voices into the dialogue. She has a great appreciation for the thoughtful planning and hard work that has gone into making Fort Collins that great place it is and is excited to give back to help shape its future.
