Process & Timeline

The Green Building Program is being developed through a collaborative approach involving City staff, consultants and advisory committees. The focus of Green Building Program Work from second quarter 2010 through first quarter 2011 has been development of "green amendments" to the Fort Collins building code.

City Council adopted the recommended package of ordinances on the First and Second Readings on March 1 and March 22, 2011.

The adopted ordinances will take effect January 1, 2012, with the exception of the more stringent building envelope requirements for electrically heated buildings which will go into effect April 1, 2011.

Green Building Program Advisory Committee (GBPAC)

The Green Building Program Advisory Committee (GBPAC) is a high-level advisory committee with a diverse blend of community stakeholders and City employees with varying perspectives and interests in green building.

Staff keeps members informed of progress and seeks input regarding the direction of the evolving program. Sharing information about green building practices is a regular part of the agenda. The GBPAC meets approximately quarterly.

All GBPAC meetings are open to the public. Upcoming meetings will be posted on the City calendar.

Technical Review Advisory Committees (TRAC)

Two Technical Review Advisory Committees (TRAC), one focused on the residential sector (R-TRAC) and the other on the commercial sector (C-TRAC), advised staff as they developed the building code green amendment proposal. TRAC members have completed their work.

The Green Building Team would like to thank all TRAC members for their commitment to the code review and proposal development review process.
