The City of Fort Collins website receives more than 15 million "hits" per month from over 500,000 visitors around the world. Consistently recognized as a leader in municipal websites, City staff continually strives to improve the website and ensure access for all through the use of best practices and web standards.


The most recent design on this website was officially launched on March 1, 2010, as a joint effort between the eGovernment team and the Communications and Public Involvement Office. The highlights of the redesign include:

Easy to Find Information with New Menu Items
The redesigned site includes several new menu items including frequently requested tasks and Hot Topics. Major projects and initiatives are displayed prominently on the home page to make them easier to find.

More Ways to Connect
The new site also highlights a variety of ways to receive information from the City. Links to Twitter, Facebook, e-newsletters, RSS feeds, and other subscriptions are easy to find and allow users to choose the tool that works best for them. Online city services such as paying utility bills, paying traffic tickets, and checking traffic conditions are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Customizable Home Page
Each "module" or section on the home page can be dragged and resorted, all without a login. Now users can choose what information they find most valuable and display that at the top of the home page.

Mobile Friendly
More people are accessing the internet on the go from their mobile device. The new is designed to be equally compatible with your PC and your mobile device.

Pages are optimized for modern browsers to reduce page load time and improve the user experience.

Improved Search Engine Indexing
The main pages are better focused on specific topics which will improve search engine indexing.

Best Practices
Every page on the site is "standards-compliant", making them accessible for all Internet users, including those with disabilities. As the Web Standards Project ( notes, standards simplify and lower the cost of production, benefiting the greatest number of web users.
