Sales Tax Update

August sales tax collections are based on retail sales made in July 2010.

Sales tax collections:
$5,186,133, an increase of 1.5 percent compared to August 2009. Year-to-date, the first eight months of 2010 have shown a slight increase in collections. As of August 2010 sales tax collections are up 2.2 percent compared to collections from January-August 2009.

Use tax collections:
$1,019,477, a decrease of 15.8 percent compared to August 2009. The use tax collections year-to-date are up 12.1 percent compared to collections for the first eight months of 2009.

National collections:
July sales tax collections (as reported on August 13) increased 5.9 percent compared to Fort Collins increase of 1.5 percent.

Building permit collections:
decreased 20.1 percent in August.

Permits pulled:
Residential: 14, compared to 18 in August 2009. Residential remodels: 68 permits. In August 2009 there were 53 remodel permits.
Commercial: 1 permit for new construction, 36 for remodeling. In August 2009 zero permits were pulled for new construction, 18 permits for remodeling.

Sales tax licenses:
89 net new licenses were issued.
