“While Bike to Work Day and the additional Bike to Work Week events are a great way to celebrate bicycles in our community, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge there is a wildfire burning in our backyard and affecting many of our neighbors, friends and family,” said North. “FC Bikes is encouraging residents to donate to or volunteer for the High Park Fire relief efforts.”
North also suggested that participants follow health department recommendations and check the air quality prior to bicycling or engaging in any outdoor activity. In general, if you can see or smell smoke, it is recommended you avoid outdoor physical activities. If visibility is decreased in your neighborhood to less than five miles, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy. Air quality updates are available at www.colorado.gov/airquality/advisory.aspx.
