***Original Release***

On March 9th, 2024, at approximately 11:15 pm, Fort Collins 911 received a call from someone reporting that a person had been shot at the apartments located in the 700 block of Mangold Lane in Fort Collins. When officers arrived on scene, they attempted lifesaving efforts on the victim, an adult-male, but were unsuccessful, and the victim was pronounced deceased.

At this time, officers and detectives are continuing their investigation into this incident. We currently do not have a suspect in custody. There is a heavy police presence at the scene, and that is expected to continue into the morning hours while investigators process the scene. Detectives believe this to be a gang related shooting; details surrounding why that is believed, to include any gang names, will not be released at this time in an effort to prevent any type of retaliation for this incident.

“Our thoughts are with those who lost their loved one tonight. Our detectives will work to find answers for them and to hold those responsible for this act of violence,” said Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky who oversees the Fort Collins Police Criminal Investigations Division.

When we have additional and confirmed information regarding the incident, including a possible suspect description, we will share that information. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Detective Corporal Julia Chenoweth at (970) 416-2645.
