Athletic bodies and contemporary costumes meet explosive Taiko drumming and innovative choreography in this show that has critics raving about TAO’s extraordinary precision, energy and stamina. With hundreds of sold-out shows, TAO has proven that modern entertainment based on the traditional art of Japanese drumming has massive international appeal. The stars of TAO train and live at a compound in the mountains of Japan. The performers reach the highest level of virtuousity only after years of intensive study, however they each bring nontraditional flair to the group by drawing on their diverse backgrounds: one as a hard rock musician, another a gymnast, and yet another as a composer. They offer a young and vibrantly modern take on a traditional art form.

This is a story of multinational influence on the food system. The first chunk of the film plays like the Cliff’s Notes version of Pollan’s “Omnivore’s Dilemma,” although it relies as much on Tom’s pithy analyses as it does on Pollan’s. It races at top speed through the history of subsidies and the effect of artificially cheap commodities on America’s waistline and public health.
