On February 1, 2024 at approximately 3:06 pm, Fort Collins Police were made aware of an injury crash in the 900 block of Conifer Street. When officers arrived on scene, they located two vehicles, a Nissan Altima and a Subaru Impreza. The Nissan was on the south side of the roadway, and the Subaru was off the road and partially down an embankment. The driver of the Subaru was trapped inside the vehicle; officers immediately began to render medical aid before EMS and Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) arrived on scene. PFA extricated the driver of the Subaru and they were transported to an area hospital. The driver of the Subaru is an adult female, and the driver of the Nissan is a juvenile male who was not injured in the collision.

Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. To this point, the investigation has revealed that both vehicles were travelling eastbound on Conifer Street. The Subaru pulled to the south side of the road and made a U-turn when it was struck by the Nissan. The impact sent the Subaru then off the roadway.

“I’m grateful that officers were on scene and able to render aid so quickly. While we work to determine what exactly caused this crash, we ask all drivers to be attentive of their surroundings,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.

Police are investigating if speed was a factor in the collision, and if a right of way violation was committed. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Matt Brede at (970) 221-6842. Conifer Street was closed in both directions from Lemay Avenue to Sugarpine Street while investigators processed the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately 4 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.
