Small Business Corner: Prospect Station LLC
Prospect Station LLC
Now, with MAX ready to open in May and Seaser's project -- Prospect Station -- coming out of the ground, Seaser is feeling good about what he calls a "gateway" development.
The partners of Prospect Station LLC are building a mixed-use development with 27 apartments, two live-work units and a small retail space at 223 W. Prospect Road. Seaser, who built the original The Egg & I franchise, has teamed with Fort Collins partners Steve and Barb Spanjer, Doug and Connie Dohn (who built most of Seaser's restaurants) and Alex Schuman on the development. Public improvements associated with the project are partially funded through the Fort Collins Urban Renewal Authority.
"What drew us to the property was that it's really a gateway to CSU and I love CSU," said Seaser. He is active with the university's Athletic Department and the Hospitality Management program in the College of Health and Human Sciences. "The impetus for buying that property and doing something there was to make it nicer for those entering the CSU campus on Prospect."
"That was before MAX. I like the whole idea of MAX. This is a baby step for us. I'm on the 287 corridor improvement advisory committee for the City of Loveland because I have a restaurant there. We need mass transit to eventually go all the way down to Loveland."
Seaser said he hopes the retail space in Prospect Station will be a small coffee shop or restaurant for people getting off the bus or coming up the bike trail.
"We love so much about the town -- we have a great mayor and a caring City Council who listen to people and great City staff," he said.
Rayno Seaser and his wife Patty have lived in Fort Collins since 1981. They started The Egg & I franchise in 1996 and later sold the franchise business with the exception of three locations in northern Colorado: two restaurants in Fort Collins and one in Loveland. Spanjer Homes, Dohn Construction and The Egg & I together employ 165 people in northern Colorado, said Seaser, who also noted that all three companies have received the Better Business Partners Torch Award, which is an award for ethics in business.
