Our Visitor's Center is home to the heart of our operations and visitor experience. The facility was built in 2004 and renovated in 2019 and offers a Gift Shop, Butterfly House, classroom meeting room, and office spaces. The new building contains a conservatory, large community meeting room, new entryway with gift shop, café concessions, and additional office space. These additions in 2019 doubled the square footage of the facility. Our Visitor's center is striving for LEED Gold. It is anticipated the future Visitor's Center will serve up to 125,000 annual visitors with an inviting, educational, and more efficient space.
The heart of our expansion is a 1,500 square foot glass house with a meandering pathway and two primary gathering spaces. The future home to hundreds of native butterflies, the Butterfly House will offer educational opportunities for all ages. To support the expanded butterfly and horticulture needs of the Butterfly House, a new mechanical room and chrysalis room was constructed. The chrysalis window offers guests the opportunity to watch butterflies emerge.
New Entrance and Lobby
Our main entrance has become one single entry, and the new lobby welcomes every guest to the Gardens. The guest service area expanded to four stations. A new expanded gift shop offers garden based wares and souvenirs. The new Visitor's Center now connects to the stand-alone bathroom building - bringing all the current restrooms under one roof. A new family restroom was also added.
Community Meeting Room
A new conference room will allow us to host lecture classes and offers the community another meeting space at The Gardens. Its will also serve as a green room for guest performers and a bridal party room for weddings.
A small concession cafe will round out the new lobby area - beginning service in 2020. Although not equipped for full meals, the cafe offers snacks and beverages to our guests.
