Description

Light plays a part in ours and most others species perception of the world. From vision to evasion, the reflection of light informs species of the colors of the world: what to avoid, what to secure, who to mingle with, and communicates inside and outside of species.

Our understanding of light itself is tied to the visible light spectrum, energy and wavelengths of light whose color reflects different properties of absorption and reflection. These boxes represent the scientific primary colors of light: red, green, and blue, as opposed to the art class teachings of red, yellow and blue, and the flora and fauna that reflect these inherent hues. A dropped color wheel from the top of the box demonstrated what happens when there is additive coloring, the creation of the colors cyan, magenta, and yellow. All species across the box reflect native Colorado species, to give the viewer a sense of wonder: locked in this box are animals and plants from just this state, leaving a plethora of other primary species that exist outside of the box.
