Despite the illustrative and childlike excision of this design, the message of this piano mural is aimed at adults. Our lives are filled with magic and color as kids but turn grey and serious as we age. This design is meant to catch the eye and plant a seed of that wonder back into the adult life. A piano sitting in public is already an invitation to break from our normal day. It offers a pocket of music and joy we can slip into even for just a little bit. I want to amplify that invitation from a whisper to a yell. This busy design is meant to stand out. It says “Look at the fun you could be having with me! Just take a short break from your walk to work, even if just for a minute, and become a kid again at my keys.”
Theo is a Fort Collins based artist working in fibers and painting. Their art is shaped by dreamlike themes and figures. They blur the lines between natural and supernatural by pulling imagery from both realms. In making art like this, they share their internal worlds filled with wonder and joy with the viewer.
