A River Through History

Artist
Ren Burke
Year
2014
Description

To celebrate Fort Collins’s 150th Birthday, Ren’s design for this year’s piano pays tribute to the Cache la Poudre River. Ren selected the river because it has been integral to the development and continued vitality of Fort Collins. The front of the piano shows the city as we know it. You see several Old Town buildings and the Poudre River rushes by in the foreground with a group of river rafters waving from a boat and trout splashing in the currents below. On the back of the piano, the establishment of Fort Collins is represented by a trapper canoeing down the river with a log building flying an American flag in the background. All four sides of the piano feature the Poudre River flowing with dynamic color and patterning. A bit of a departure from Ren’s regular subject matter of the natural world with an animal focus, she does plan to include local wildlife in the design where possible.
