- Lemay Avenue over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway and Vine Drive
The Lemay Avenue realignment and intersection improvements project constructed a new road and intersection slightly east of the previous Vine and Lemay intersection. The design for the intersection includes a new overpass over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railway and existing Vine Drive.
The project team worked with Art in Public Places artist Joshua Wiener to create artwork to accentuate the Lemay Avenue overpass, over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway and Vine Drive. The design includes 10 free-standing sculptures along with art designed for the bridge fencing. The design allows for motifs of swirls and rings to extend from the bridge fencing and continue into the landscape on the east and west approaches to the overpass. The artwork is meant to be playful and move through the site and landscape.
The swirls and rings of the art are intended to give a sense of motion to the mountains and sky. The sculptures are placed to interact with the landscape. The rings will create apertures to focus the audience’s attention on specific views.
