City Council accepting applications for District 6 seat

The City of Fort Collins is seeking candidates to fill the District 6 City Council vacancy following Emily Francis’ election as mayor.
Applications for the vacant seat are due no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 31. City Council will narrow the applicant pool to no more than five during a special meeting on Jan. 13, 2026. Council will then hold interviews and select an applicant at a work session and special meeting on Jan. 14. The selected applicant will be sworn into office at the Jan. 20 City Council meeting.

The appointment will last until a newly elected Councilmember is sworn in following the November 2027 municipal election. If the appointed Councilmember wishes to retain the District 6 seat, they will need to run for election in November 2027.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- United States citizen
- A registered voter in the city for one year immediately prior to the appointment
- At least 21 years of age
- A resident of Council District 6 (check your Council district)
- Never convicted of a felony of embezzlement of public moneys, bribery, perjury, solicitation of bribery or subornation of perjury
