Executives looking for a way to become involved with promising start-ups can apply for advisor positions at the Rocky Mountain Innovation Initiative’s SAGE program. Rocky Mountain Innovation Initiative (RMI²) is the area’s leading high tech business incubator. SAGE stands for Social and Advisory Group for Entrepreneurs.
Advisors chosen to work with budding businesses are carefully interviewed and selected to work one-on-one with entrepreneurs, participate as a “test” audience for new products or services, or teach at one RMI²’s FastTrac® TechVenture™ classes.
SAGE has approximately fifty volunteers. These men and women are of executive or senior management rank. Most advisors have experience leading medium to large groups of people and many are successful entrepreneurs themselves. Companies seeking professional advice and mentoring are matched with an advisor. This process is based on expertise, personal interest and general good fit.
Volunteers invest approximately forty-eight hours per company with a commitment from three to eighteen months, depending on the startup’s need.
In 2009 SAGE volunteers logged 2,000 hours. Based on the caliber of consulting, and factoring the going market’s $200-300/per hour consultant fee, local companies are receiving a half a million dollars of free consulting as they grow their business and move to the next level.
