Northern Colorado's First Innovation Summit
In cooperation with Colorado State University and Congresswoman Betsy Markey’s office, the City of Fort Collins recently celebrated the innovative businesses and entrepreneurs of our area at the inaugural Innovation Summit at the Lory Student Center.
During the five-hour event, more than twenty-five businesses and organizations showcased their businesses and services and networked with other participants. Panels of experts from the Bioscience and Clean Technology industries gave presentations and offered perspective on the innovation economy in Fort Collins and the region.
The keynote speech was given by U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, John R. Fernandez. The Assistant Secretary was impressed by the region’s depth of programming that assists entrepreneurs and promising startup companies succeed. In addition, Fernandez emphasized the importance of local leadership and state and national level support of entrepreneurs in developing successful businesses.
The energy at the Innovation Summit was palatable. Audience members from corporate executives, to workforce development specialist, to university researchers were enthusiastic about the momentum of innovation in Fort Collins and how so many area companies are pushing the creative envelope.
