Spokes: the shortened version of spokesperson; a bicycle term; lines connecting an outer circle to an inner circle or hub. BUZZ: newsy information passed among friends; good vibes surrounding something new; a warm happy feeling you get after a couple brews.
Put the two words together and you get SpokesBUZZ, the Fort Collins music non-profit spreading the good news of talented local musicians across the country. Dani Grant is the pied piper and president of the one-year old organization. With a passion for local music, Dani and the SpokesBUZZ team take up and coming musical acts and promote the bands like a record label or management company.
SpokesBUZZ is a promotion engine and music incubator for more than a handful of bands. Each year SpokesBUZZ selects six to eight bands to nurture, promote and place in the national spotlight so that they can find musical success and sign their first recording contract. The main event for SpokesBUZZ is the internationally renowned South By Southwest® (SXSW®) music, film and media festival in Austin, TX. Having Fort Collins bands recognized nationally at a music showcase such as SXSW® raises the awareness of Fort Collins and our rich music culture. There are many local events where people can hear the music and meet the bands too.
The economic impact of arts and culture in a community drive the sponsorships of many organizations. Beet Street and the City of Fort Collins are SpokesBUZZ sponsors who see the benefit of a diverse arts platform that adds vibrancy and energy to the area. A robust music scene encourages attendance by residents and visitors. A robust music scene, as part of a community’s high quality life, attracts quality companies to the area.
How can you get involved? If your company or organization would like to make a difference in local musicians’ lives and futures, contact Dani and SpokesBUZZ for sponsorship and volunteer info.
