The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been activated to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
On September 2, 2022 just after noon, Fort Collins Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment in the 1200 block of East Stuart Street. An adult male suspect had been at the property earlier in the day, but he left prior to police arrival. Officers learned that the man, who had a felony warrant for burglary, had returned to the property.
Officers arrived and located the suspect in the apartment, at which time the man jumped from the balcony in an attempt to escape. He was stopped by officers outside and safely taken into custody, then transported to an area hospital for evaluation of injuries related to his jump.
While the suspect was trying to escape, officers also encountered several other individuals inside the apartment, including a man armed with a gun. During the encounter, an FCPS officer fired his duty weapon, striking the armed man. The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries and is expected to survive.
No officers were injured during this incident. CIRT was notified and has responded to take over the investigation. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency and any further information regarding this incident will be released by that agency.
