Fort Collins Utilities Observes Public Power Week, Oct. 3-9

FORT COLLINS, CO – The safety, quality and reliability of our community’s electricity are top priorities for Fort Collins Utilities’ Light & Power. National Public Power Week, Oct. 3-9, provides the opportunity to recognize the many behind-the-scenes employees who work year-round to ensure our energy supply remains safe and always available.

Fort Collins was one of the first cities to begin undergrounding the electric system over 50 years ago and the benefits continue to this day. Over the years, we have adapted to changing technology and customer needs and have progressed beyond industry standards. The community rarely sees weather-related outages due to this innovative distribution system – it’s reliable more than 99% of the time.

Today, over 77,000 homes and businesses enjoy the many benefits of the state-of-the-art underground system. The utility operates and maintains over 2,000 miles of electric lines, seven distribution substations and over 12,000 streetlights. Fort Collins benefits from some of the lowest rates in the state.

As a community-owned utility, our operations are not-for-profit and controlled locally. We are fully accountable to our customers and value local decision-making and customer service. As the utility progresses, youth and adult education, conservation programs and a variety of efficiency rebates provide awareness and savings opportunities that benefit both the customer and the environment.
