Police Investigate Vehicle vs Pedestrian Collision
On July 6, 2021, at approximately 5:59 P.M. Fort Collins 911 received multiple calls regarding a motor vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the Rosetree Village Apartments club house located at 953 Richmond Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they were informed that the collision involved a 2014 Buick Lacrosse and a juvenile male. The Buick had left the roadway travelling through a grassy area and drainage ditch before striking the pedestrian. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the club house parking lot.
The driver of the Buick, an adult male, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and did not sustain any injuries. The pedestrian that was struck was a juvenile male who sustained serious injuries. He was initially taken to an area hospital before being transferred to another hospital for specialized care.
Due to the severity of the injuries of the juvenile, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. Richmond Drive was closed in between the 1000 block, to Cunningham Drive for approximately 4 and a ½ hours while investigators processed the scene.
“Our investigators are conducting interviews, collecting and analyzing evidence to determine what led up to this incident, and will work to provide answers to those involved,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
Anyone with information about this incident who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Officer Brandon Barnes at (970) 221 6540.
