Police Investigate Fatal Collision

Released on Thursday, April 8, 2021

On April 7, 2021 at approximately 8:22 pm, Fort Collins Police were notified of a collision between a skateboard rider and a vehicle near the intersection of Constitution Avenue and West Elizabeth Street. Officers arrived on scene and located the skateboard rider, an adult male, in the roadway. The male was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Fort Collins Police Services CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. Investigators know that the skateboard rider was in the roadway when he was struck by multiple vehicles which were travelling eastbound on Elizabeth Street. Investigators are working to determine if this was a hit and run crash, and if all the involved vehicles that struck the skateboard rider are accounted for.

"This is a tragic situation for everyone involved. As the weather begins to get warmer, please remember there are an increased number of vehicles and pedestrians using the roadways and be cognizant of your surroundings. Our investigators will do everything they can to determine the circumstances surrounding this collision," said Lieutenant Mike Trombley who oversees the CRASH Team.

Elizabeth Street was closed between Skyline Avenue and Bryan Avenue for approximately 5.5 hours while investigators processed the scene. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police are asked to call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at (970) 416 2224. Officers are also asking anyone who may have video surveillance along West Elizabeth Street that captures the flow of traffic, or a dash camera and were travelling along West Elizabeth Street around the time of the collision to contact police as well.
