A project to restripe and add improvements to Jefferson Street begins the week of Oct. 5.
Work will include a reduction from four travel lanes to three on Jefferson Street from College Avenue to Linden Street, concrete crosswalks at the Jefferson Street/Linden Street intersection, and sidewalk and curb and gutter repairs along Jefferson Street. The restriped road will have one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes from College Avenue to Linden Street.
These improvements were formalized in an Intergovernmental Agreement between the Colorado Department of Transportation and the City in 2013.
Drivers should be prepared for lane closures and temporary prohibited turns. Alternate routes are advised. One lane of traffic in each direction will be allowed throughout the project.
Work is expected to take four weeks, weather permitting.
The improvements on Jefferson Street will better tie in the River District to Downtown Fort Collins, provide better pedestrian crossings on Jefferson, and add a “buffer area” between on-street parking and the eastbound travel lane. The project also ties into and complements the Linden Street Renovations Project, which is scheduled to begin in January 2021.
