Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision
On May 16, 2020 at approximately 3:26 pm, Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a motorcycle versus sedan collision near the intersection of Shields Street and Fossil Creek Drive.
A 2001 Yamaha R1 motorcycle was traveling south on Shields Street. As it was approaching Fossil Creek Drive, a 2014 Subaru Outback sedan made a left turn from westbound Fossil Creek Drive onto southbound Shields Street. The front of the motorcycle collided with the rear of the sedan.
The driver of the sedan, a 38-year-old woman from Fort Collins, and her passenger suffered minor injuries. The operator of the motorcycle, a 42-year-old man from Fort Collins, was treated at the scene but did not survive his injuries. His name will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office at a later time. The man was wearing a helmet.
Shields Street was closed between Harmony and Trilby Roads for approximately 4.5 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police believe the speed of the motorcycle contributed to the collision.
“Any loss of a loved one is hard, but a sudden tragedy like this is especially difficult,” said FCPS Chief Swoboda. “Our hearts are with everyone affected by this incident.”
Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.
