City Park Pool (1599 City Park Drive) closed its doors to humans for the 2019 summer season on August 18. However, man’s best friend need not worry because City Park Pool will open again for one day during the annual Pooch Plunge. At the Pooch Plunge, dogs get their chance to splash, swim, and plunge through the pool waters. The Pooch Plunge will take place Sunday, August 25, from 3:30-6:00 p.m.
Tickets for the Pooch Plunge are currently on sale at Mulberry Pool (424 Mulberry Street) for $8. Each ticket admits one dog and one handler. Those who purchase their tickets in advance of the event date are considered “Very Important Pooches” and will receive early entry at 3:30 p.m. into the Pooch Plunge. For all other interested pups, day-of tickets are $10 and go on sale at 4 p.m. on August 25 at City Park Pool. Entry for day-of ticket holders begins at 4 p.m.
In addition to splashing and diving, pet owners and their furry friends can meet with pet care experts while at the Pooch Plunge. Four Paws Pet Hotel & Resort will be available with information about their aqua therapy programs, as well as have a veterinarian on-site if any pup needs services. Other experts will share information about pet nutrition, exercise, therapy, and Aquamation-an alternative to pet cremation.
Doggy bags will be available to the first 400 ticket holders who attend the Pooch Plunge. The bags will include treats for dogs such as biscuits, toys, and the highly anticipated edition of the Pooch Plunge magazine, which features photos and articles about pooch living.
Pets and owners are reminded that for health and safety reasons, swimming is for dogs only. Humans will not be permitted in the pool to swim with their pets. Owners are asked to supervise their pets at all times. These guidelines will be strictly enforced.
City Park Pool is managed by the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department and is Fort Collins’ largest outdoor community swimming pool. The pool welcomes thousands of people every summer to lounge in the lazy river, plunge down the 30-foot drop slide, swirl through the curly slide, and splash in the water play features.
