FORT COLLINS, CO – How healthy is your home? Do you know the best way to keep mold out of your washer and shower? Do you know what chemical contaminants could be lurking in your cabinets?

In the U.S. today, people spend close to 90% of their time indoors. National Healthy Homes Month, created by HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes, is an outreach campaign designed to help people connect the dots between their health and their home.

Fort Collins residents can sign up for a free Healthy Homes Assessment through the City any time of year. During the assessment, you’ll learn to identify the presence of air pollutants and safety hazards and tips on how to make your home as safe and healthy as possible.

Included with each assessment is a free radon test kit, Healthy Homes cleaner, carbon monoxide detector, and smoke alarm. You’ll receive a wealth of information and provide low cost or no cost recommendations you can implement to maintain a healthy home. The assessments are performed by trained Master Home Educators and typically take less than an hour and a half. For more information, please visit the City of Fort Collins Healthy Homes Program.
