On May 16, 2019 at 10:56 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports involving a suicidal adult male at his home in the 400 block of Skyway Drive in Fort Collins. There was also a report from a neighbor of a gunshot in the area. The male was armed with a firearm and discharged it multiple times in the home.

Officers set up in the area and attempted to make contact with the male. They were able to contact him several times, but he would not cooperate. SWAT team members and crisis negotiators responded to assist and used a variety of tools and tactics in an attempt to safely resolve the situation. Area residents may have seen or heard flash-sound diversionary devices (also known as “flash bangs”), which officers used during the incident. At approximately 5:00 a.m. on May 17, officers entered the home and found the male deceased inside.

No one else was injured in this unfortunate incident. The suicidal male was the only person who discharged a firearm.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the male’s name, manner, and cause of death at a later time. Anyone with information about this incident, who has not already spoken to investigators, is asked to contact Detective Brandon Barnes at (970) 416-2051 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at (970) 221-6868.
