Police Investigate Fatal Crash
On August 19, 2025, at approximately 2:00 pm, Fort Collins Police were notified of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of East Horsetooth Road and South Lemay Avenue. The motorcyclist was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. The motorcyclist, an adult male, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Due to the collision involving a fatality, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. The investigation to this point has revealed that a 2021 KTM motorcycle was travelling westbound on Horsetooth Road when a collision occurred with a 2022 Ford Ranger pickup that was travelling eastbound on Horsetooth Road. The Ford Ranger was in the left turn lane, preparing to make a left-hand-turn to go northbound on Lemay Avenue.
Investigators are working to determine the exact lane positioning of the involved vehicles, vehicle speeds, and what traffic law violations may have occurred.
“Our team of investigators is working to determine the factors that contributed to this crash and provide answers for everyone involved. We recognize that incidents like this are traumatic and life-changing for all those affected,” said Sergeant David Lindsay who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
East Horsetooth Road was closed between Camelot Drive and Rolling Green Drive, and South Lemay Avenue was closed from Mansfield Drive to the entrance of Warren Park off of Horsetooth. These roadways were closed for approximately 4 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene.
Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Kevin Alexander at (970) 221 6540.
