The City of Fort Collins launched the public comment period for the Fort Collins Utilities Water Efficiency Plan (WEP). This comprehensive plan will guide conservation and efficiency programs for Utilities’ water service area for the next several years.

Water is an essential resource for all of us, so it’s critical to hear from the community. People can review the draft WEP at ourcity.fcgov.com/wep and provide feedback. After the review period concludes on June 23, staff will consider all comments before finalizing and submitting the WEP to Fort Collins City Council and the Colorado Water Conservation Board for approval later this year.

The City values input from our community. Staff extensively involved people before developing the plan and kept their input at the forefront while developing efficiency goals and strategies.

“Thank you to the hundreds of people across Fort Collins who provided feedback on the draft plan,” Water Conservation Specialist Alice Conovitz said. “We hope our community will now take a look and let us know their thoughts, as this plan will guide our conservation work for years to come.”

Along with population growth and regional issues like the Colorado River Basin drought, climate change is predicted to continue to impact water supplies and demand for water. Upon approval, the City will leverage the WEP to manage water use and lower the risk of water shortages.
