Police Investigate Serious Auto vs Pedestrian Collision

Released on Friday, May 2, 2025

On May 2nd, 2025, at approximately 6:11pm, Fort Collins Police were notified of a serious collision between a vehicle and pedestrian at the intersection of South Shields Street and West Swallow Road. When officers arrived on scene, they located the pedestrian, an adult male with serious injuries from the collision. He was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The involved vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck, which was driven by an adult male stayed on the scene.

Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. The investigation to this point has revealed that the Chevrolet truck was heading northbound on South Shields Street and making a left-hand turn to go westbound on Swallow Road. As the truck was making the turn, it collided with the pedestrian who investigators believe was in the crosswalk. Police are working to determine who had the right of way, color of the traffic signals, and status of the pedestrian signal.

“As the weather continues to get warmer, we will see an increase of pedestrians. We ask all drivers and pedestrians to obey traffic control devices and be cognizant of their surroundings, for everyone’s safety,” said Sergeant David Lindsay who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Officer Scott Maher at (970) 221 6540. The investigation is currently ongoing.
