FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The City of Fort Collins and BNSF Railway will replace the railroad crossing on West Prospect Road just west of South College Avenue June 3-5, weather permitting. Prospect will be fully closed to all traffic at the crossing from Tuesday, June 3 through Thursday, June 5, 24 hours a day; the road will reopen to traffic as soon as work is complete.

During the closure, all east-west traffic that would normally use Prospect should use Mulberry Street or Drake Road instead. All traffic on Prospect, the Mason Trail and the pedestrian crossing just east of the railroad crossing will be detoured; Transfort’s MAX operations will remain unaffected:

  • Traffic heading east on Prospect: All traffic heading east on Prospect will be detoured onto South Shields Street toward either Mulberry Street or Drake Road; traffic on Prospect between Shields and the work area should be local traffic only
  • Traffic heading west on Prospect: All traffic heading west on Prospect will be detoured onto College Avenue toward either Mulberry Street or Drake Road; Prospect will be fully closed between College and the work area
  • Traffic on the Mason Trail: Bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the Mason Trail will be detoured onto the Spring Creek Trail, Remington Street and the Garden Trail (connecting the Mason Trail to Remington Street via Colorado State University's Annual Flower Trial Garden)
  • Pedestrian traffic: Pedestrians needing to cross Prospect during the closure may do so at the intersections of Prospect and Center Avenue and Prospect and College; pedestrians needing to cross the railroad during the closure may do so at Lake Street
  • MAX bus service: MAX bus service will remain unaffected during the closure, and continue to use the signaled MAX crossing at Prospect during the work

Access to residences and businesses will be maintained.

Maps for all detours, as well as important updates to active closures, are available at fcgov.com/construction
