Police Investigate Vehicle, Bicycle Collision

On May 16th, 2024, at approximately 7:59 am, Fort Collins Police dispatch was notified of a vehicle versus bicycle collision at the intersection of Shallow Pond Drive and Lady Moon Drive. It was reported that the bicycle rider was on the ground with a possible head injury.

The initial investigation indicates that the bicyclist, riding a black and blue mountain bike, was southbound on Lady Moon Drive approaching Shallow Pond Drive. The bicyclist was riding in the bike lane on the east side of the road. The other involved vehicle was on Shallow Pond Drive west of Lady Moon Drive and crossing to the east. As the vehicle crossed Lady Moon Drive the front of the vehicle struck the bicyclist who fell to the ground where they suffered a serious injury. The bicyclist, a juvenile, was transported to an area hospital and later to a specialized hospital for treatment of their injuries. The involved vehicle, a Ford F250, stopped and remained on scene and the driver is cooperating with the investigation.

The Fort Collins Police Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling (CRASH) Team responded to take over the investigation. The intersection of Shallow Pond Drive and Lady Moon Drive was closed for approximately four hours while investigators processed the scene.

The CRASH Team is still investigating the circumstances that led up to the collision. Anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to the police is asked to contact Officer Matt Brede at (970) 221-6842.

"As we enter the summer months, it is important to recognize there will be an increase in multi-modal transportation. We ask all drivers and roadway users to be cognizant of their surroundings to ensure safe travel for all,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police Traffic Unit.
