Police Investigate Serious Two Vehicle Collision
On August 16, 2023 at approximately 07:32 am, Fort Collins Police were notified of a serious collision between a commercial motor vehicle refrigerator box truck and a Dodge Journey at the intersection of East Harmony Road and Snow Mesa Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that the two people in the Journey, an adult male and female, had serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the box truck, an adult male, was uninjured. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.
What the investigation to this point has revealed is that the box truck was heading eastbound on Harmony Road, and the Dodge Journey was westbound on Harmony Road and turning left to go southbound on Snow Mesa Drive when the collision between the two of them occurred. Police are working to determine who had the right of way and what the colors of the traffic lights were.
“Unfortunately, this is the second day in a row that resulted in a call out for the CRASH Team. Every time the CRASH Team responds, it is because of a tragic event that happened to someone on our roadways. We continue to ask for roadway users to follow all rules as it truly does affect traffic safety,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
Eastbound Harmony Road was constricted to one lane while investigators processed the scene and was closed for approximately 5 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Philip Morris at (970) 221-6540.
