Police Investigate Serious Collision Involving Bicycle
On August 15, 2023, at approximately 9:16 am, Fort Collins 911 was notified of a serious collision between a bicycle and vehicle at the intersection of Clarendon Hills Drive and Alexa Court. Fort Collins Police and Emergency Medical Services immediately began to respond. When they arrived on scene, they located an adult male cyclist with critical injuries from the collision. The cyclist was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The vehicle that collided with the bicycle was a Volvo XC60 SUV which was driven by an adult male. The driver of the Volvo stayed on scene.
Due to the cyclist’s injuries, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. To this point, the investigation has revealed that the cyclist was heading southbound on Clarendon Hills Drive, and the Volvo was eastbound on Alexa Court making a right-hand turn to go southbound on Clarendon Hills Drive when the collision occurred.
“Anytime there is a serious collision where the CRASH Team responds, there are multiple investigative steps and processes that investigators must take to determine what exactly led up to the collision, and to properly document it. Our city streets continue to be busy during these summer months with a variety of roadway users and we encourage everyone to be extra attentive when travelling on them,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
This investigation is still in the early stages and ongoing. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Brandon Barnes at (970) 221-6842.
