Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision
On July 23, 2023, at approximately 12:33 pm, Fort Collins 911 was notified of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of South Lemay Avenue and Commanche Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that the rider of the motorcycle had life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The rider was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.
The investigation at this time has determined that a motorcycle was riding with two other motorcycles and going southbound on Lemay Avenue when a Toyota Camry who was going northbound on Lemay Avenue turned left to go westbound on Commanche Drive. One of the southbound motorcycles then collided with the passenger side of the Camry.
“As the CRASH Team investigates the factors that led up to this specific crash, we ask all roadway users to be cognizant of the various modes of transportation and follow the applicable rules of the road,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
South Lemay Avenue was closed in both directions in between Kirkwood Drive and East Stuart Street for approximately four hours while investigators processed the scene.
Anyone with information regarding this collision who has not already spoke to police is asked to call Officer Brandon Barnes at (970) 221-6540.
