Update Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash

Released on Wednesday, April 19, 2023

***UPDATE***

Earlier this morning, Fort Collins Police Services was contacted by the owner of the dark colored Chevrolet pickup truck. Officers were able to interview the driver and locate that involved vehicle. As a result of this contact, the Medina Alert that was issued through Colorado Bureau of Investigation was CANCELED.

Officers are working to determine how many other vehicles may have struck the pedestrian and are looking to speak with those drivers. Our preliminary investigation and statements from witnesses lead us to believe another involved vehicle may be red Chevy pickup truck. In addition to this, we are seeking any information regarding a semi-truck that may have been stopped in the 900-block of East Mulberry Street between 11:00 pm and 11:45 pm.

As with all of these cases, it is important for a complete and thorough investigation to be done before presenting any possible charges to the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office for review. If there are any businesses in the area who may have surveillance video of this intersection, or anyone with information regarding this collision who has not already spoken to police, please call Officer Dave Kaes at (970) 416 2229.

Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Hit & Run Crash

Released on Wednesday, April 19, 2023

On April 18, 2023 at approximately 11:39 pm, Fort Collins 911 was notified of a pedestrian who was run over in the 900 block of East Mulberry Street. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male, mid-block who shortly after arrival was pronounced deceased. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

Officers believe that the pedestrian was struck by at least two different vehicles, neither of which stayed at the scene or reported it to police. Based on witness statements and evidence located on the scene, officers believe that one of the vehicles that struck the pedestrian is a 2004-2012 dark colored Chevrolet Colorado pick up truck. It is possible that this vehicle has front end damage on the driver side of the vehicle. Fort Collins Police coordinated with our partners at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to issue a Medina alert for a suspect vehicle.

“Members of the CRASH Team will work diligently and utilize all available investigatory resources available to them to locate the vehicles that were involved in this collision,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.

Eastbound Mulberry Street was closed in between Riverside Avenue and Lemay Avenue for approximately 5 hours while investigators processed the scene. Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Dave Kaes at (970) 416 2229. The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the decedent after proper next of kin notifications have been made.
